Certified Mastectomy Fittings

A Certified Mastectomy Fitter is a valuable information resource and a sympathetic ear for women in a health crisis. Mastectomy fitting is the practice of addressing medical conditions of the upper extremities and post-mastectomy surgical outcomes.

What does a mastectomy fitter do?
Pursuant to a physician’s order, a mastectomy fitter measures a patient and properly fits, dispenses and adjusts external breast prostheses, bras and related supplies. Trained and certified mastectomy fitters are integral to the physical and emotional well-being of patients, providing instruction and training on how to properly use and maintain post-mastectomy devices.

Post-Mastectomy Services Fittings for breast prostheses are among the services available at SNCC. Our team of certified mastectomy fitters offer a private consultation in an intimate setting, helping patients select from a wide variety of post-surgery breast forms, temporary and permanent prostheses, apparel and accessories. Post-mastectomy fittings and products are typically covered by insurance, please call our office to know your options.

What shoud I expect?
A scheduled fitting appointment can take from 45 minutes to an hour. Our staff begins by just listening to find out what a patient’s expectation is.

The 1998 Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act mandated that insurance companies that cover mastectomies must also cover breast reconstruction and external breast prostheses. Medicare and most private insurance carriers cover a foam prosthesis every six months or a silicone prosthesis every two years. Mastectomy bras are usually covered as well.
