At Cancer Partners of Nebraska (formerly Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center), we are happy to provide two different types of yoga. Restorative Yoga is a simple, yet effective relaxation method that includes guided breathing, short meditations and fully supported postures. We also offer Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors classes. These oncology-based yoga classes provide safe and effective yoga techniques to help cope with cancer treatment side effects.
We offer Restorative Yoga to our patients and the public at Cancer Partners of Nebraska! Do you know the many benefits that Restorative Yoga has to offer?
- Restorative Yoga is the re-integration training of the mind-body connection.
- It is a prop-heavy, breath-control-based yoga class developed by Judith Lasatar.
- The slower pace and deep breathing trigger the parasympathetic nervous system.
- The overall calming effect on the nervous system sets a deeply relaxing tone for the class that comforts your mind and body down to the cellular level.
- Restorative yoga enables the integration of all the layers of life- environmental, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.
Yoga for Cancer Patients/Survivors
The focus for classes is on the importance of movement to stimulate the immune system, improve flexibility and strength, reducing anxiety and boosting well being. Research has shown that yoga can reduce the side effects of cancer and its treatments and reduce the risk of recurrence. Cancer survivors and patients need specific support from yoga professionals. Classes incorporate physical postures, breathing techniques and mindfulness exercises such as meditation. All fitness levels are welcome.

Meet our Instructor – Cristy Anderson, RN, BSN:
Ms. Cristy Anderson’s primary role in the clinic is working as a physician’s nurse with Dr. Haris Zahoor. Christy is originally from Sioux Falls, SD, moved to Lincoln in 1994 and instantly became a Big Red fan! Cristy received her nursing degree in 2002 and worked in women’s health initially. She found her passion with the oncology population and obtained her Oncology Nursing Certification in 2008. Ms. Anderson is repeatedly inspired by her patients on a daily basis. She took this inspiration and coupled it with the main goal in her life to “age gracefully” as motivation to complete her Yoga Certification through Yoga and Ayurveda Center. Cristy is excited to combine her nursing knowledge and continued passion for the oncology population to create a fun, relaxing, learning experience for her yoga students.
